Foundation of Entrepreneurial Journey

Saif Ahmed Al Ghurair, was born on the shores of Dubai Creek in 1924. The eldest of five siblings, he quickly assumed responsibilities within the family enterprise, which primarily revolved around pearl diving and later trading goods between neighbouring countries by sea. The trips were long and arduous. After one stormy voyage to India, Saif lost an eye, the reason for the trademark dark sunglasses he wore in later years. These experiences laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey, instilling in him an instinct for business opportunities and an appreciation for hard work and perseverance.

Founding of Al Ghurair Group

In the late 1950s, Dubai’s growth skyrocketed under Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum’s leadership. Saif founded Al Ghurair Group in 1960, uniting the family’s expanding business interests. Under his leadership, the Group diversified into financial services, manufacturing, and real estate, carefully selecting ventures that contributed to both the Group’s growth and the Dubai economy.

Legacy of Leadership and Customer Service

Saif emphasized the significance of exceptional customer service. He believed the Group’s success stemmed from its strong corporate culture, which nurtured innovation and growth. His death on August 27, 2019 was marked by tributes from Dubai’s ruling family, government officials, and prominent business leaders, who described him as a “pillar of the Dubai economy”
